Really enjoyed speaking to the folks in Johnstown, PA! I was a Boy Scout and happy to share my life with them. – Brett

Brett was a speaker with the Laurel Highlands Council of the Boy Scouts of America at the 47th annual Harry E. Mangle Memorial Dinner.

Keisel will speak to an audience of Scouts, Scoutmasters and community members about one of the core tenets of the Boy Scout philosophy, according to Michele Brenneman, the Laurel Highlands Council’s field director.

“He’s going to talk about leadership, which is very much the basis of the Scouting program,” Brenneman said.

Keisel, a Wyoming native, was drafted by the Steelers in 2002. Famed for his Pro Bowl-level performance at the defensive end position – and for his luxurious facial hair, which earned him the nickname “Da Beard” – he played in Pittsburgh for 12 seasons before retiring in 2015.

“He’s an amazing individual,” Brenneman said.

“What he’s been able to accomplish on the football field – the (fame) that goes along with that – is very important to have here in Johnstown. We’re very grateful that someone of his caliber is willing to come out here and speak.”
